The fact is, children and teenagers grieve differently than adults do.
That's why Hospice of Little Traverse Bay has created a program where children and teenagers can come to express their grief on their terms in an environment that's safe and nonjudgmental.
Children and teens who are grieving experience a myriad of feelings and typically are not equipped to handle all of them in appropriate ways, nor are they aware of what can be "normal" when grieving.
When grief issues are not dealt with, behavioral problems can occur. Children may:
- Be disruptive in class
- Fight with peers
- Become depressed and withdrawn
- Bring complicated grief issues into their adult relationships
Who we serve:
- Any youth, ages 3 -19 years of age, who is grieving the loss of a parent, friend, sibling, or relative due to death by illness, accident, suicide or homicide.
- School systems who want assistance with grief support.
