Hospice of Little Traverse Bay Residence

One Hiland Cottage – A dream come true!

Hospice Hiland Cottage GroundbreakingWith the successful completion of the capital campaign in January 2007, the Hiland Cottage project moved forward. Birchwood Construction of Harbor Springs is managing the site work and project development.

pring activities included the creation of parking areas for crews and equipment, preparation of the wetlands demonstration project, and preliminary foundation work. A significant portion of the construction has been done over the summer and fall with final completion scheduled for May 2008.

Named for long time hospice advocate and board member Hiland Hall, the facility will house seven bedrooms decorated to create a homelike atmosphere. It will be a place of comfort for patients and their families as they experience the end-of-life transition together. The facility will also house all Safe Crossings Community Support Services and Hospice administrative offices.

Having a hospice residence for patients and a permanent location for family services, would give HOLTB a real and lasting physical presence in the community. It would be a symbol for the community, a solid and positive investment in HOLTB’s future, and a much-needed response to the needs of a growing number of end-of-life patients throughout the service area.

The HOLTB hospice house would have seven patient bedrooms and also house the Community Grief & Loss Center, the place to come for answers, guidance and counsel. The house will facilitate individual counseling, support groups, educational workshops and an expanded resource library all in one location. The patient bedrooms would be individualized, each with a private bath and decorated with the comforts of home…a place where patients are comforted and where hospice families can create lasting memories, share laughter and tears and find the peace of life in its final stages.
